چکیده

Abstract In this paper, we (i) present a methodology for determining the aerodynamic performance of bi-directional turbomachines pumped thermal energy storage, i.e., designed to operate as compressor in one direction, and then turbine opposite (ii) carry out computations such turbomachines, (iii) propose principles conceptual design these devices. Focus is placed on using storage cycle not only identify novel requirements but also estimate effect efficiency process. particular, difference between loading forward backward operation causes blading work at incidences leading below maximum efficiency, resulting lower round-trip efficiency. The description includes determination number stages, definition nondimensional parameters selection, optimization two-dimensional operation. assessment stage count shows relationship relative Mach number, pressure ratio, are assessed through analogue existing “Smith charts,” single-direction function camber stagger. blade shape evaluation show how profile can be modified address turbomachine, enabling an increase two percentage points compared baseline double circular arc configuration.

A Bi-Directional DC/DC Converter for Energy Storage Systems

This paper addresses a bi-directional dc/dc converter suitable for an energy storage system with an additional function of galvanic isolation. An energy storage device such as an electric double layer capacitor is directly connected to one of the dc buses of the dc/dc converter without any chopper circuit. Nevertheless, the dc/dc converter can continue operating when the voltage across the ener...

Modern Topology& Thermal Analysis of Drive for Variable Speed Pumped Storage Power Plant

Given the significant power generation and consumption of variable-speed pumped storage power plants (VSPSPs), it is crucial to enhance drive methods and decrease drive losses, thereby increasing productivity. This paper proposes the topology for VSPSP drivers with two level voltage source converters (2LVSC) with 6+1 converters. Hydraulic and electrical VSPSP models are presented, following whi...

Thermodynamic analysis of pumped thermal electricity storage

The increasing use of renewable energy technologies for electricity generation, many of which have an unpredictably intermittent nature, will inevitably lead to a greater need for electricity storage. Although there are many existing and emerging storage technologies, most have limitations in terms of geographical constraints, high capital cost or low cycle life, and few are of sufficient scale...

Dsp Based Bi-directional Interleaved Dc-dc Converter for Energy Storage Application

The central part of an energy storage system is the DC-DC converter which connects the ultracapacitor pack or the battery pack and a DC bus of an energy system. In this paper the bi-directional converter which operates in discontinuous conduction mode is designed in order to reduce the costs and remove the current control loop in each phase. High current ripples associated with this mode operat...

Microencapsulation of Butyl Palmitate in Polystyrene-co-Methyl Methacrylate Shell for Thermal Energy Storage Application

MicroEncapsulated Phase Change Materials (MEPCM) are green materials which could be used for thermal energy saving applications in buildings as a non-pollutant method for environmental. PCMs could passively reduce peak cooling loads in hot seasons because of their high energy storage capacities at a constant temperature. Purpose of this paper is manufacturing Microencapsulated PCM (MPCM) pr...
